Privacy Policy

1. Core principle: your data stays on your device first

Lector can be used without an account. Your books, reading progress, marked words, FSRS review records, badges and statistics are kept in the App's storage on your device. Read-aloud (Supertonic 3) runs on your device; the text being read is never sent to the internet.

2. Data processed and purposes

Book texts are never sold, never used for advertising and never transferred to third parties for training AI models. The App contains no advertising, advertising-ID tracking, analytics or crash-reporting tools.

3. Third-party services

• Google translation service (translate.googleapis.com): When you tap a word, choose "Translate", or choose "Translate everything now" when adding a book, the relevant text and language codes are sent to Google. These requests are not linked to your account. Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
• Free Dictionary API (api.dictionaryapi.dev): For English words, only the word itself is sent to obtain its pronunciation and definitions.
• Hugging Face: The read-aloud model is downloaded from here once, on first use. No text of yours is sent during the download; as with any download, the server can see your IP address.
• Payments: Lector Pro is purchased through Google Play Billing and Apple StoreKit. Your card and payment details are processed by the stores and are never seen or stored.
• Cloud infrastructure: Lector Pro's cloud backup and sync service and account data are hosted on the servers of our cloud infrastructure provider. Servers may be located abroad; transfers are made in accordance with Article 9 of the KVKK.

4. Retention

Data on your device stays there until you delete it or uninstall the App. Data in your cloud account is kept while your account exists; when you delete your account it is permanently deleted, including backups, within 30 days. Records subject to statutory retention (e.g. invoices kept by the stores) are outside this period.

5. Deleting your account and all your data

In the App, go to Profile › Data Management › Delete Account and All Data. After a two-step confirmation:

1. All Lector data on your device (books, words, FSRS records, statistics, preferences) is deleted immediately.
2. If you have an account, your account and cloud backup are marked for deletion and permanently deleted within 30 days.
3. Deletion cannot be undone. It does not cancel a Lector Pro subscription; cancel it separately in your store.

This is free and does not require a subscription. If you cannot access the App, send your deletion request from the e-mail address registered to your account to the e-mail address at the end of this policy.

6. Security

Data on the device is kept in the operating system's app sandbox. Communication with servers uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is completely secure; in the event of a breach we will inform you and the competent authorities as required by law.

7. Children

Lector is not directed at children under 13, and personal data of children of that age is not knowingly collected.

8. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct and delete your data, and to restrict or object to processing. You can request a copy of your data free of charge by writing to the e-mail address at the end of this policy. The in-app export (Anki, CSV), full backup and restore tools are included in Lector Pro. The rights of users in Türkiye under KVKK Article 11 are described in detail in the KVKK Privacy Notice.

9. Changes

We may update this policy and will announce material changes in the App or on our website. The effective date at the top shows the latest update.
